Prospect Projection

Tyrus Rathan-Mayes haas a lot of upside, we believe that he has a chance to be a good collegiate player and future pro. Tyrus comes from a basketball family, both of his older brother’s are former division 1 athletes and his eldest brother had brief stints in the NBA and is currently playing overseas. Given his pedigree, his work ethic and his love for the game i would advise coaches to recruit him.

He has the size and the skill set to excel at the next level and he understands what it takes.

Strengths

Skill Set|Maturity

Tyrus comes from a basketball family and understands the importance of skill. Both of his older brothers played division one basketball and his eldest brother Xavier Rathan-Mayes was a Canadian high school phenom and current pro. Tyrus can score from all 3 levels, off of the dribble, off of the catch and out of the mid post.

Tyrus plays at a mature pace, he understands how to use angles to get down hill and use his body to create pace and finish through contact.

Weaknesses

 Athleticism|Ball handling|Defence

Tyrus is not the most athletic wing which leaves some questions defensively and questions on how his game will translate at the next level. Right now, he is guarding a lot of bigs in the post, at the next level he is a wing, so we will have to see how his athleticism and defence will translate to the next level.
