Prospect Projection

Marial does everything you want as a coach, he rebounds, he defends and he plays hard. Given his unique skill set, we think he has a chance to get to become a pro as a high usage, versatile big. Marial is a lob threat, a defensive anchor and a rim runner. 

Marial Akuentok is the best big in Canada and has a lot of upside. At 6’10, he is extremely mobile, athletic, long and he has a high motor. I would advise college scouts to get in early with Marial, he has pro potential. 

Strengths

Mobility|High Motor|Right hook

Marial has an extremely high motor, the 6’11 big can be seen contesting shots, securing rebounds, generating 2nd chance points and running the floor to finish at the rim. With his size, length and athleticism, he has a lot of upside. At 6’11 moves really well, he can close out on the perimeter and keep guards in front in pick and rolls. 

Marial loves playing on the left block and getting to his right hook. He has a great ouch around the rim and a lot of room for growth here. 

Weaknesses

 Post Game|Shooting

Marial loves playing off of the left block, however he does not have a counter to his right hook. He needs to add to his post game and improve his ability to make reads out of the Post.

Marial has great shooting mechanics, however, he needs to improve his shooting. This past season he shot 62.5% from the free throw line.
