Class of 2026 PG Malachi Richmond: A hidden Gym

Malachi Richmond has come a long way since I last saw him play. The Edge Prep Class of 2026 point guard has put on a masterclass all weekend and has a chance to put his name on the map in the NPA Finals against Canadian prep powerhouse Royal Crown.

Malachi is a high-character athlete who lives by his faith. This past summer, he spent time with Kyrie Irving and Phil Handy honing his game with his full-time trainer, Jonathan Thompson of Next Generation Athletics.

I believe Malachi has pro potential. At his size, he makes great decisions, navigates the pick-and-roll really well, and makes plays for himself and others.

He is also a physical guard who finishes around the rim in a variety of ways with contact. He has great shooting mechanics, is always on balance, and understands how to hunt shots off the ball.

He also does a great job of getting his teammates involved and understanding when to pick his spots to be aggressive as a scorer. Malachi is extremely efficient—he doesn’t waste energy or dribbles, and he is intentional with what he wants to do.

At the very least, he is a mid-major talent. He reminds me a lot of Andrew Nembhard and definitely has a chance to be a future pro.
