Origin of The Northway

The Northway was created to address a gap in Canadian basketball evaluation—where prospects were often judged through limited film, secondhand information, or systems that lacked true Canadian context. We believed Canada’s talent deserved a more accurate, grounded, and accountable evaluation process.

Evaluation Philosophy

Our evaluations are built primarily through in-person scouting. Film is a tool, not a substitute. Seeing players live allows us to assess competitive habits, physicality, decision-making, body language, and character—elements that cannot be fully captured on tape.

Geographic Commitment

The Northway is Canada-first. We are committed to covering Canadian prospects coast to coast, and we travel globally only when necessary to ensure accurate evaluation of Canadians competing abroad.

Ethics, Independence, and Confidentiality

We operate independently and without outside influence. Rankings and reports are never bought or influenced. Client confidentiality and unbiased reporting are core principles of our work.

Why Access Is Limited

Access to The Northway is intentionally limited to maintain trust, depth, and integrity. We work only with organizations and individuals serious about building winning programs at the highest level.

Background

Founded by Kayon Mayers, a former athlete with firsthand experience in competitive basketball environments, The Northway applies lived experience and disciplined analysis to every evaluation.
